The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of peer education on climate change awareness and climate change anxiety levels among nursing students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Aydin University.
The study will be conducted using a single-group quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. Nursing students enrolled in the department will constitute the study population.
Based on a power analysis conducted with a significance level of 0.05 (α=0.05), a statistical power of 95% (1-β=0.95), and a medium effect size (Cohen's d=0.50), a minimum sample size of 54 participants was calculated. Considering a possible data loss rate of 10-15%, it is planned to recruit approximately 65 students.
The study aims to determine nursing students' knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity regarding the health impacts of climate change, and to contribute to strengthening the sustainability and environmental health components of nursing education.
This research is also aligned with the International Council of Nurses (ICN, 2018) call for nurses to reduce the negative effects of climate change on public health, support climate action, and contribute to sustainable development goals.
Furthermore, the study contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being Goal 4: Quality Education Goal 13: Climate Action

Being a student outside the nursing department or a guest student Not providing informed consent Submitting incomplete questionnaires (≥20% missing responses)
Peer education sessions will be provided to nursing students to improve their knowledge and awareness about climate change and its health impacts.
Time frame: Baseline and immediately after peer education intervention
Climate change awareness will be measured using the Climate Change Awareness Scale (CCAS). Changes in total scores from baseline (pre-intervention) to post-intervention will be evaluated. Higher scores indicate higher levels of climate change awareness.
Time frame: Baseline and immediately after peer education intervention
Climate change anxiety will be assessed using the Climate Change Worry Scale. Changes in total scores from baseline (pre-intervention) to post-intervention will be evaluated. Higher scores indicate higher levels of climate-related anxiety.
