Balance Performance and Quality of Life in Parkinson's Disease

This observational study aims to examine the relationship between performance-based balance test results and quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's disease. It also seeks to determine which balance test best explains quality of life in this population.

Balance and functional performance will be assessed using the Six Spot Step Test, 30-Second Chair Stand Test, Timed Up and Go Test, Four Square Step Test, Berg Balance Scale, and 3-Meter Backward Walk Test. Quality of life will be evaluated using the 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). The findings may help clinicians select appropriate assessment methods and develop rehabilitation programs that address the factors associated with quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Inclusion criteria

Willing to participate in the study and providing written informed consent
Having a diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease
Being 20 years of age or older
Being classified as stage 1-3 according to the Modified Hoehn and Yahr Scale
Being in the "on" medication state and undergoing assessment one hour after taking antiparkinsonian medication

Exclusion criteria

Being a healthy individual matched for age and sex with a participant diagnosed with Parkinson's disease Willing to participate in the study and providing written informed consent Being 20 years of age or older

Treatment and study plan

Primary outcomes

Health-Related Quality of Life Assessed by the PDQ-39

Time frame: During the single assessment session (approximately 25 minutes)

Health-related quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's disease will be assessed using the 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). The PDQ-39 Summary Index ranges from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating poorer health-related quality of life.
