Flemish Foster Parents' Satisfaction With Foster Care and Their Extra Support Needs With Parenting

From foster parents' perspectives, this study aims to shine light on the (problem) behaviour children in Flemish foster care have. Secondly, it examines if its prevalence is associated with foster parents' parenting and their satisfaction with several aspects of foster care (i.e., matching, preparation and training, acquainted foster care workers). Finally, foster parents report on their support needs. It is hypothesized that foster parents will report fewer behavioural problems and support needs: (1) the more satisfied they are, (2) the more functional parenting they use. As such, this study gathers knowledge for tailored intervention and might contribute to the literature on breakdown prevention.

  • fostering (a) minor foster child(ren)
  • speaking Dutch

Primary outcomes

  1. foster parents' perceived amount of problem behaviour in their foster children, using the VOT-P 4.0 questionnaire

  2. foster parents' parenting behaviours, using the VOT-P 4.0 questionnaire

  3. foster parents' satisfaction with several aspects of foster care questionnaire (i.e., matching, preparation and training, acquainted foster care workers), using the VOT-P 4.0 questionnaire

  4. foster parents' extra support needs with parenting (including handling problem behaviour) and laying contact with birth families, using the VOT-P 4.0 questionnaire
