The Effect of Multimodal Approach of Electrotherapy Versus Shock Wave Therapy in Menopausal Women With Tennis Elbow.

Tennis Elbow (or Lateral Epicondylalgia) is one of the most common overload injuries that it is the most frequent cause of lateral elbow pain, occurring to people between 40-60 years of age. It is characterized by pain on the outside of the elbow, usually near the lateral epicondyle bone where the extensor carpi Brevis tendon attaches, aggravated by gripping or wringing activities During menopause period, declining estrogen levels can negatively impact tendon health. Estrogen plays a protective role in tendons, contributing to their strength and ability to withstand load.

About this study

As estrogen decreases, tendons may become weaker, less resilient, and more susceptible to injury, potentially leading to conditions like tendinopathy. This can often add to these feelings of pain and limit of function ; and possibly limit your movements in day to day activities. Multimodal electrotherapy ( low level laser therapy plus interferential current) and extracorporeal shock wave therapy can be used to improve this problem.

Healthy volunteers accepted: No

Only the study team can determine whether someone qualifies for participation.

Inclusion criteria

  • forty five menopausel females suffer from chronic lateral epicondylitis from Department of out patient orthopedic clinic of 6 october hospital .

(2) Their age ranged from 45 _55 years old 3) Their BMI will be 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2. 4) Point tenderness at the lateral epicondyle. 5) Positive Cozen test 6) Symptoms duration of minimum 3 months

Exclusion criteria

  • Patients with cervical radiculopathy ,thoracic outlet syndrome ,
  • dysfunction in shoulder or elbow with corticosteroid injection in previous three months.
  • Their BMI more than 25 kg/m2.
  • Unrelated to any traumatic conditions
  • Any previous fracture elbow, wrist or hand

Treatment and study plan

multimodal electrotherapy

Other

subjects will receive multimodal approach of electrotherapy (LLLT , and IFC) with conventional physical therapy modalities in the form of (stretch and strengthen exercises ) 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks

shock wave therapy

Other

subjects will receive shock wave therapy with conventional physical therapy modalities 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks.

Exercise

Other

subjects will receive with conventional physical therapy modalities only in the form of (stretching and strengthening therapeutic exercises ) 3 sessions every week for 6 weeks.

Primary outcomes

  1. Visual analogue scale

    Time frame: 6 weeks

    The VAS consists of a 10-cm line, with the left extremity indicating ''no pain'' and the right extremity indicating ''unbearable pain.'' Participants asked to use the scale to indicate their current level of pain Higher values suggest more intense pain ,It was found that VAS provide valid and reliable assessments for the affective magnitude, as well as the sensation intensity of pain.

  2. hand grip

    Time frame: 6 weeks

    Grip hand strength will be assessed by hand held dynamometer
