About this study

The study will include at least 159 elderly individuals aged 65 and over. Assessments will be conducted via face-to-face interviews. After recording the demographic information of the participants, cognitive functions will be assessed using the Hodkinson Mental Test, climate change health literacy using the Climate Change Health Literacy Scale, anxiety level using the Climate Change Anxiety Scale, physical activity level using the Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity, dyspnea level using the Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale, and mental fatigue using the Mental Fatigue Scale. Assessments are planned to be completed in approximately 15-20 minutes.

Who can participate

Healthy volunteers accepted: Yes

Only the study team can determine whether someone qualifies for participation.

Inclusion criteria

- Being 65 years of age or older

  • Volunteering to participate in the study
  • Inclusion of elderly individuals who score 6 or higher on the Hodkinson Mental Test.

Exclusion criteria

- older adults who cannot be contacted due to reasons such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or psychosis

  • Having another chronic illness that may cause pain (rheumatic diseases, hemiplegia, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, etc.)
  • Having a neurological disease (hemiplegia, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, vertigo, epilepsy, etc.)
  • Being blind
  • Having an orthopedic, neurological, or intellectual disability

Treatment and study plan

Primary outcomes

  1. Hodkinson Mental Test

    Time frame: 5 minutes

The test consists of 10 questions in total. A high score indicates a proficiency in cognitive problems.

  2. Climate Change Health Literacy Scale

    Time frame: 10 minutes

The scale consists of 24 questions. The lowest possible score is 24, and the highest possible score is 120.

  3. Climate Change Anxiety Scale

    Time frame: 8 minutes

It consists of 22 questions and a 4-factor structure. A higher score on this scale indicates increased concern about climate change.

  4. Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity

    Time frame: 5 minutes

It consists of 9 items and is answered with "yes" or "no". It is divided into two parts. The first part assesses aerobic capacity. The second part assesses muscle strength and flexibility.

Secondary outcomes

  1. Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale

    Time frame: 5 minutes

It consists of five points. The patient rates respiratory distress on a scale of 0 (no shortness of breath) to 4 (shortness of breath during activities such as being homebound and dressing).

  2. Mental Fatigue Scale

    Time frame: 10 minutes

The survey consists of 15 questions in total, and the scoring is obtained by summing the scores from the first 14 questions. The last question is evaluated as yes or no. Based on the total score, it is classified as follows: 0 - 10 = no mental fatigue problem, 10.5 - 14.5 = mild mental fatigue, 15 - 20 = quite severe mental fatigue, ≥ 20.5 = severe mental fatigue.
