Inclusion criteria

  • Patients scheduled for elective thoracic surgery

Exclusion criteria

  • ASA score >3
  • Body mass index > 35 kg/m2
  • History of neuromuscular disease
  • History of thoracic surgery
  • Phrenic nerve paisy

High Flow Nasal Cannula

Device

A device able to delivery high flow oxygen therapy

Facial Mask

standard oxygen therapy

Primary outcomes

  1. Incidence of diaphragmatic dysfunction

    Time frame: 24 hours after surgery

    Ultrasound evaluation of diaphragmatic dysfunction

Secondary outcomes

  1. Postoperative pulmonary complication

    Time frame: 7 days after surgery

    Incidence of postoperative pulmonary complication

Other outcomes

  1. Days without oxygen support

    Time frame: 7 days
