Key information

About this study

Sixty chronic kidney disease patients, Measurement of bone turnover markers done prior to the study and at the end of the study after 6 months. Participants included in two groups. Group (A) received resisted exercise training on some resistance machines where; group (B) received treadmill exercise training.

Who can participate

Healthy volunteers accepted: No

Only the study team can determine whether someone qualifies for participation.

Inclusion criteria

  • Non-smokers,
  • no alcohol consumption
  • no intake of hormone replacement therapy
  • mass index ranged from 20-24 kg/m2.

Exclusion criteria

  • diabetes disorders
  • hypertension disorders
  • cardiac disorders
  • musculoskeletal disorders
  • endocrine disorders
  • intake of medications that may affect bone metabolism.

Treatment and study plan

resisted exercise training on some resistance machines

Other

resistance exercises on some resistance machines, 3 sessions of exercise training /week

treadmill exercise training

Other

treadmill aerobic exercise (intensity equal 60-80 % of each individual maximum heart rate)

Primary outcomes

  1. serum osteoprotegerin (OPG)

Time frame: at baseline and after six month

An overnight fasting venous blood sample was drained, centrifuged and stored at -70 °C

  2. receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand

Time frame: at baseline and after six month

An overnight fasting venous blood sample was drained, centrifuged and stored at -70 °C

Secondary outcomes

  1. Bone mineral density (BMD)

Time frame: at baseline and after six month

BMD of lumbar spine (L1-L4), proximal femur and distal radius was measured with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
