Clinical Follow-up of Porcelain Veneering on Titanium Crowns Produced by Different Techniques

This clinical study aimed to evaluate the short-term clinical performance of porcelain-veneered titanium crowns fabricated using two different techniques: conventional casting and CAD/CAM milling. Restorations were assessed according to FDI clinical evaluation criteria with respect to esthetic, functional, and biological outcomes during follow-up appointments.Clinical evaluations took place at baseline (2 days after luting) and following 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after luting.

Inclusion criteria

  • Patients with good oral hygiene
  • no systemic conditions contraindicating restorative treatment,
  • either post-endodontic crown indication
  • structurally compromised teeth (e.g., fracture, wear, or discoloration) with healthy periodontal and endodontic status were included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

  • Patients with gingival inflammation
  • furcation defects,
  • abnormal probing depths
  • abnormal attachment levels,
  • parafunctional habits were excluded from the study.

Treatment and study plan

Casting Titanium-Ceramic Crown

Device

Titanium-based ceramic crowns produced using conventional casting technique and cemented clinically.

CAD/CAM Titanium-Ceramic Crown

Device

Titanium-based ceramic crowns produced using CAD/CAM technology and cemented clinically.

Primary outcomes

  1. Clinical performance of titanium-ceramic crowns evaluated using the Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) World Dental Federation clinical criteria

    Time frame: Baseline, 3 months,6 months, 12 months, and 18 months

    Clinical performance will be evaluated using the FDI World Dental Federation scoring system (scores 1-5). The overall FDI score will be used as the reported outcome measure
