This study aims to investigate the prevalence of refusal of participation in surgical clinical trials in our community. Furthermore, it aims to highlight potential factors contributing to refusal of participation. Finally, it aims to know how to engage patients and their representatives in future surgical clinical trials.

Inclusion criteria

All consecutive patients admitted to the General Surgery Department and the Surgical Oncology Department
Adult patients aged 18 years or older
Both genders

Exclusion criteria

Patients less than 18 years old
Patients with behavioural problems
Patients with psychiatric disorders

Primary outcomes

Prevalence of refusal of participation in surgical clinical trials in our community

Time frame: within 48 hours of admission

Secondary outcomes

potential factors contributing to refusal of participation

Time frame: within 48 hours from admission
