Postoperative Outcomes After Partial Duodenopancreatectomy Versus Total Pancreatectomy

The goal of this observational study is to compare short-term outcomes after partial pancreatoduodenectomy and total pancreatectomy in adults undergoing elective surgery for pancreatic or periampullary neoplasms in Switzerland. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is total pancreatectomy associated with higher in-hospital mortality than partial pancreatoduodenectomy? Do postoperative complications and failure to rescue differ between the two procedures? Researchers will compare patients undergoing total pancreatectomy with those undergoing partial pancreatoduodenectomy to assess differences in mortality, postoperative complications and failure to rescue. Propensity score matching and mediation analysis will be used to reduce potential bias and evaluate the independent association of surgical procedure with mortality and failure to rescue.

This retrospective study uses anonymised data from the Swiss national inpatient database between 2013 and 2022. Participants will not receive any study-related intervention and will not be contacted.
