Assessment of Risk Factors for Incisional Hernia Following Major Abdominal Surgery

The aim of this study is to assess the independent patient-related and surgery-related risk factors associated with the development of incisional hernia following major abdominal surgeries.

Healthy volunteers accepted: No

Only the study team can determine whether someone qualifies for participation.

Inclusion criteria

  • Patients aged 18 years or older.
  • patients who underwent major abdominal surgery including both elective and emergency surgeries.
  • Patients with complete medical records and operative data.
  • Patients willing to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

  • Patients younger than 18 years.
  • Patients with recurrent incisional hernia.
  • Patients with incomplete medical records or missing data on key study variables.
  • Patients who refused to participate in the study.

Treatment and study plan

Cases

Other

Patients who developed incisional hernia following major abdominal surgery performed during the preceding two years.

Controls

Other

Patients who underwent major abdominal surgery during the same period but did not develop incisional hernia.

Primary outcomes

  1. surgical site infection

    Time frame: within 10 days after surgery

    Incidence of surgical site infection following major abdominal surgery, as a risk factor for incisional hernia
