Hybrid Stroke Rehab With Mirror Priming

This trial aims to examine the effects of enhanced mirror priming, overcoming the limitations of traditional mirror therapy, to achieve optimization and personalized intervention.

Who can participate

Healthy volunteers accepted: No

Only the study team can determine whether someone qualifies for participation.

Inclusion criteria

  • A first-ever unilateral stroke ≥3 months
  • Age between 20 and 80 years
  • Baseline Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) score ≥ 10
  • No severe spasticity in any joints of the affected arm
  • Ability to follow the instructions
  • No participation in other studies during the study period
  • Willingness to provide informed written consent.

Exclusion criteria

  • Serious medical problems or poor physical conditions that might be detrimental to study participation.
  • Received or planned botulinum toxin injections within 3 months prior to or during the trial

Treatment and study plan

Mirror priming

Behavioral

During the mirror priming process, the movement images of the participant's unaffected limb are mirrored to the affected side to provide visual feedback.

Conventional Therapy

Behavioral

Conventional therapy is individualized and may include impairment-oriented, shaping, or whole-task practice.

Primary outcomes

  1. Fugl-Meyer Assessment

    Time frame: Baseline, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

Secondary outcomes

  1. Grip and pinch power

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  2. Revised Nottingham Sensory Assessment

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  3. Berg Balance Scale

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  4. Motor Activity Log

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  5. ABILHAND Questionnaire

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  6. Chedoke Arm and Hand Activity Inventory

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  7. Stroke Impact Scale

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.

  8. Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire

    Time frame: Baseline, 4 weeks, and 3 months post-intervention.
